Profile of a Real Girl: Mindy Kaling

Mindy Kaling is one of comedy’s brightest.  She made her entrance to the national stage in 2005, as a writer for the NBC hit sitcom, The Office, where she had to learn the ropes as the only female on a staff of eight.  Most of us met her when she stepped in front of the camera as Kelly Kapoor on the show.  In 2011, she became a bestselling author with the release of Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (and Other Concerns) detailing her take on friends, family, love and body image.  After reading her book, you definitely feel like you want to be friends with her.

As an actress, comedian, screenwriter, and author, Mindy has taken the world by stormMinday Kaling - Profile of a Real Girl.  These days she has her hands full with The Mindy Project, which debuted this season on FOX.   She is the creator, executive producer, writer and lead of the new series.  The show has also brought her special attention as the first South Asian American in a staring roll in a television series.

Mindy possesses a visible confidence in her body image and beauty.  With her petite structure and curvaceous figures, she knows she doesn’t fit Hollywood’s stereotypical body type…

“If someone called me chubby, it would no longer be something that kept me up late at night. Being called fat is not like being called stupid or unfunny, which is the worst thing you could ever say to me. Do I envy Jennifer Hudson for being able to lose all that eight and look smokin’ hot? Of course, yes. Do I sometimes look at Gisele Bundchen and Wonder how awesome life would be if I never had to wear Spanx?  Duh, of course. That’s kind of the point of Gisele Bundchen. And maybe I will, once or twice, for a very short period of time.  But on the list of things I want to do in my lifetime, that’s not near the top…”  From Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me?
